A terroir where Mother Nature can be wild and generous with wine

Located in the Oriental part of Corbières, between Alaric Mount and Black Mountain, the 130 hectares of Château Vaugelas lie in the Lagrasse Valley. This valley, sourced with water from the Orbieu’s river, stands out from arid areas of the region and gets its name from its wealth (Lagrasse meant fertile in Occitan). The prestigious Abbaye of Lagrasse has chosen this land to grow vines in the 16th century, aware of the terroir’s potential both in fertility and warmth.

Wild lands at the foothills of the Black Mountain

These wild lands are known to have managed to attract men of God looking for isolation to pray. They left behind a rich heritage of earth science, viticulture and winemaking knowledge.

For centuries they took advantage of this extraordinary terroir, to grow a vineyard of red wines and produce world class wines that are rich, spicy, balanced and fruity.

The Nurturing Valley

Even if the summer brings drought and strong winds, Château Vaugelas vineyard benefits from Schist like gravelly scree which are remnants from the alluvial plain of Orbieu's’s river that flows on the vineyard. The perfect phytosanitary environment makes it an ideal growing condition to produce complex wines, leaving fragrances of spices and scrubland so specific to this land.
